1. How can I purchase SmartTraveller Enhanced?

You can purchase Generali Travel Insurance via our agents or branches.

2. Why do I need travel insurance?

Travel insurance is designed to protect you and your family during travel. The major benefits provided are coverage for travel inconveniences (flight delay, baggage delay, loss of baggage or loss of personal items, etc.) and medical expenses occurred while travelling (excluding pre-medical condition). 3. Who is eligible to purchase SmartTraveller Enhanced?

Individual (Malaysians, Permanent Residents, and Employment Pass/Work Permit Holders & Dependent(s) of Pass Holders) who travel for leisure and/ or business.

4. My flight is departing from a neighbouring country (ie. Singapore). Can I buy this travel insurance?

No.

5. Can I purchase travel insurance if I am departing today?

Yes you can still purchase your travel insurance on the same day of your departure as long as it is before your departure. However, you are encouraged to buy at least 14 days before your travel in order to enjoy trip cancellation benefit.

6. Do I need to bring my policy wording when I travel?

It is not necessary to bring your policy wording. Please contact our worldwide assistance +(603) - 2142 0399 in case of any emergencies or contact our agent for any enquiries.

7. Can I buy travel annual plan for working holiday in New Zealand or Australia?

Travel insurance is designed for travellers who travel for leisure or business only. Working holiday is not considered as a leisure or a business trip.

14. Is there a maximum period of cover?

Single trip - The maximum period of cover is 190 days.

Annual plan – The maximum period of cover is 95 days per trip, unlimited number of trips within the period of insurance stated in the Certificate of Insurance.

15. Who is eligible to be covered under the Family Plan?

The Family Plan includes you, your spouse and unlimited number of accompanying children. Not applicable for persons aged 65 and above.

16. What if I want to include cover for domestic travels?

If you wish to cover your domestic travels, you should take up the Domestic Travel Extension as an add-on.

17. How do I purchase the add-ons?

You must purchase the add-ons at the point of inception of your travel policy. Take note that some benefits are only applicable if your policy is effective at least 14 days prior to your trip. It is advisable to get your travel insurance sorted out as soon as possible during your trip planning.

3. What happens if I have a medical emergency overseas?

If you have a medical emergency overseas, you can visit the doctors for treatment and claim it back when you return to Malaysia. Do note that you have to provide all official receipts and doctor’s letter for your claims. If you need any urgent assistance, you can contact our 24 hours hotline at +(603) - 2142 0399.

4. Can I buy travel insurance if I use overland transport to Singapore or Southern Thailand?

Yes. However, you are not entitled to claim flight related benefits.

5. Do you cover for domestic? For example, flying from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Kinabalu?

Yes, we offer Domestic Travel Extension where you have option to extend cover for domestic travel.

6. Do you cover winter sports (i.e. skiing), hiking, trekking and scuba diving?

Yes, we do cover winter sports, scuba diving and hiking/trekking in remote areas if accompanied with licensed guides (no height limit), subject to policy conditions and exclusions.

7. Do you cover for car rental excess?

Yes, we do cover for car rental excess under single and annual plan (individual and family plan).

8. Do you cover home contents during the travel period?

Yes, we do cover for home contents as a result of burglary or fire under single and annual plan (individual and family plan).

9. Does your travel insurance cover pregnant women?

Yes, we do. But we do not cover claims arising from pregnancy including childbirth caesarean operation, abortion, miscarriage and all related complications except miscarriage due to bodily injury as a direct result of an accident.

10. If I cancel my trip, do I get my money back?

Trip cancellation coverage is available, provided that you purchase your travel insurance at least 14 days before your trip. We will pay for your pre-paid irrecoverable fees if you have to cancel your trip due to incidents such as;

  • Your death, Serious Injury or Serious Illness or the death, Serious Injury or Serious Illness of Your Immediate Family Member
  • Unexpected outbreak of strike, riot or civil commotion
  • Witness summons
  • Serious damage to your residence.
  • Inclement Weather and/or Natural Disaster occurring at the planned destination.

Do note that you have to first get a refund from the relevant parties before claiming from us, and we will pay for the outstanding amount.

11. Do you provide flight and accommodation refunds if I’m unable to travel?

Yes, we will pay for your pre-paid irrecoverable fees should you be unable to make a trip due to valid reasons (ie. Sickness & injury with official doctor’s letter). Do note that you have to first get a refund from the relevant parties such as airline, travel agency and hotel before claiming from us, and we will pay for the outstanding amount.

12. What is Pre-existing Medical Conditions, and can I still purchase travel insurance with these conditions?

Pre-existing conditions means any physical or mental defect or infirmity, illness, disease, bacterial or viral infections even if contracted by accident of which the Insured Person was aware or had reasonable knowledge before the Effective Date of the Policy.

You can still purchase our travel insurance, but any recurring conditions from the pre-existing medical conditions will not be covered.

13. Who do you cover under family plan?

The family plan covers you, your legal spouse and your legal children (unlimited number of accompanying children).

The eligibility age for adults is:

  • Single trip - 18 to 80
  • Annual Policy – 18 to 75

Children must be aged between 30 days and 18 years old or up to 23 years old if he/she is studying full time in a recognised institution of higher learning.

1. How do I file for a claim?

2. How do I claim for my medical bills when I get sick during my travel?

You can first pay for your medical bills when you are overseas and make your claims when you return to Malaysia. Do note that you will need the official doctor letter and receipt to make your claims.

3. What do I do if my luggage is delayed by the transport provider?

We will pay if your checked-in baggage is delayed for each full 6 consecutive hours (RM200 for every 6 hours) upon arrival at your destination abroad. Make sure you get a written report from the transport provider confirming the delaying and how long it was for. Details of the limits of your cover can be found in Policy schedule or Policy wordings.

4. How long will it take for me to receive my claims?

Upon receipt of full documents, we will revert with claim decision within 14 working days. Once claim is approved, payment will be made within 3 working days.

UPDATE: We are currently experiencing high numbers of Travel Claims which has resulted in extended processing time. Please accept our apologies. As Generali is committed in delivering the best possible service to our clients, we will strive to come back to you on the claim status within the next 14 – 20 working days.

5. What documents will I need when submitting my claims?

SmartTraveller Enhanced covers when you travel to multiple countries.

For example, if you are going to multiple European countries like UK, France, Switzerland and Germany, you can input all these countries in the list.

3. Do you accept foreign credit cards?

No, we do NOT accept foreign credit cards when you purchase our travel insurance online.

4. Can we buy a standalone travel insurance for those under 18 years old?

Yes. Please contact our agent.

5. How do I renew my annual travel insurance?

You can contact our agent or purchase a new annual plan via the option available in our main page.

6. Do you need the children's NRIC number? How to buy for kid?

Yes, we do need the children's NRIC number for our records. Alternatively, you can use the children’s MyKid number to make your purchase.

7. My flight back to Malaysia is at night and I will only land on the following day, which date should I select while purchasing my travel insurance?

You should select the date you arrive back in Malaysia, the following day for the travel insurance to be valid.
